Mr. Abeeral Thapa is the Principal of Polygon College, a leading private mediacollege in Nepal that offers a Master’s degree in Mass Communication andJournalism, with plans to introduce Bachelor-level and IT-related programs in thenear future.Mr. Thapa was born in Chaukot, Panauti-5, Kavrepalanchok, Nepal. He holds a Master’sdegree in Mass Communication and Journalism from Purbanchal University,Biratnagar, and a second Master’s degree in Sociology from Tribhuvan University,Kathmandu.He is an alumna (scholar) of the Study of the U.S. Institutes (SUSI), 2016, where heconvened with scholars from various media organizations and universities at OhioUniversity, USA, to discuss emerging trends and challenges in media and mediainstitutions in the United States. He also represented Nepal as filmmaker from Nepalat The “Belt & Road” International Film Education Alliance 2018 in Beijing andHaikou,China.Mr. Thapa is a renowned columnist associated with Kantipur Publications. His regularcolumn, “Muktaaakash,”published in the national weekly Saptahik, has been widelyappreciated. He is also the Chairperson of Awaken Production (P.) Ltd. whichproduced the Nepali feature film “BULBUL.” The film won National Awards for BestDirector and Best Actress (2018/2019) and was selected as Nepal’s official entry forthe 92nd Academy Awards (2019).A well-known lyricist, Mr. Thapa wrote lyrics for the SAARC Film Festival silver medal–winning film “Saanghuro” (2013), which also received the National Award for BestFilm the same year. In addition to songwriting, he writes extensively on social and youthrelated issues, as well as travelogues, all of which have been widely appreciated.Earlier in his career, he worked as a Program Producer at SagarmathaTelevision and Avenues Television, and contributed to various magazines andnewspapers. He has been actively engaged in the media sector in diverse capacitiessince 2000.Mr. Thapa is one of the producers of the film “The World’s Happiest Man,” based onBhutanese immigrants and shot in the United States under SAG-AFTRA. The filmfeatures Hollywood actor Bruce Dern and Nepal’s veteran actor Hari Bansa Acharya,was screened in April 2025, and is now available on Amazon Prime. This Film namedBhuthan in Nepal received Ficson Award 2025 for Best Actor Award, BestCinematography Award and Best Editor Award, by Film Critics Society of Nepal.Currently, he is working on a new film project scheduled for theatrical release by the endof 2083 B.S.
